RVing in Trinidad!

Trinidad, Caifornia that is!

From the official website:

Trinidad is a seaside town in Humboldt County, located on the Pacific Ocean 8 miles north of the Arcata-Eureka Airport and 15 miles north of the college town of Arcata. Situated directly above its own North Coast harbor, California's smallest incorporated city (with a 2000 population of just 311) is noted for its spectacular coastline with ten public beaches and offshore rocks.

I have never stopped here before, but was looking for an overnight spot and decided to check out the Cher-Ae Heights Casino.  I have stayed at Patrick’s Point SP before, which is just a bit to the north, but since California decided to almost double the camping fees, I have decided to stay elsewhere.

The casino and restaurant have a great ocean view, and even from the RV parking area you can glimpse the ocean through the trees.  There is a nice separate, designated RV parking area, complete with water taps, but for some reason, the parking stalls are all car-sized!  The lot is nicely paved, but there are tall trees and green grass all around.CIMG5092CIMG5093

I was not planning to stay more than one night, but after spending much of the day hiking the beach and the Trinidad head lighthouse, it was an easy choice to stay another night.  Besides, I’m in a real rush to get home where it continues to snow against all odds.

At the harbor, many of the mooring bouys were on dry land for repair or service.  Old engine blocks appeared to be the favourite, but railroad wheels were also being used.CIMG5074CIMG5075

And the worlds smallest ocean viewing platform!

I watched a gull down by the pier and it looked like there was something stuck in it’s throat.  It was almost as large as the gull’s head, and hanging out both sides of it’s bill.  After seeing several more in the same condition I realized that the gulls were picking starfish off the exposed rocks at low tide.  Apparently it takes quite a while before they manage to swallow the entire thing whole.

This gull had just managed to swallow his meal, and was clearly trying to work it down his throat.CIMG5087

  1. Hey, where's our Hailey pictures?? Looks like some nice scenery up there along the coast in Northern California. That seagull reminds me of myself eating a large piece of Pizza for breakfast. Yep, no point in going home to ice & snow. Can't imagine anyone doing that.......
