Bouse, AZ

When we hooked up and left Craggy Wash at Lake Havasu, there was no definite destination or distance in mind, just a general south-easterly direction.

It wasn’t an early start, and going through town we took advantage of a free dump and water fill at Max’s Mini Mart (Texaco), earned from a propane purchase there the previous day .  While there I met up with a Montana couple I had met a few days previous, who had told me about the Texaco and were doing some landscaping work for them.  They are camped out south of town and said the coyotes there were constantly around and howling, even in daylight hours.  I told them that at Craggy Wash I had neither seen or heard a single coyote in two weeks.  Perhaps the coyotes were attracted to their three border collies?  Then there was a quick stop at the Sunday flea market, where I got some heavy duty bungee cords and a little folding rake.  Then it made sense to top off the fuel tank again as I was not sure I would find diesel again at $3.12 – with a pump that did not ask for my zip code!  So, by the time Lake Havasu was in the rear view mirror, it was not that early.

South of Parker, we continued on east toward Bouse; a road I had not traveled before.  It was already getting later when Bouse appeared on the horizon, and there had not been a lot of camping choices up to that point. But that was about to change as Bouse has a number of RV parks in and around the small town, but when we turned off onto Plomosa road that leads back towards Quartzsite, the selection was endless, and we easily found a great spot just far enough off the road to avoid any noise, with lots of privacy.

The coyotes welcomed us with a chorus well before dark set in, so Hailey was kept on a short leash.

In the morning the cloudless sky and warm sun made the decision to stay an easy one.  Out came the blocks and bbq, and camp was quickly established.  Then it was time for hike across the desert towards the Plomosa mountains.

Trees and cactus eke out a tough living here, so that’s what most of the photos depict.  No sign of the wily coyotes, though they sang another chorus very close by just before the beautiful sunrise!

After getting back from the hike, I took a little drive around to check out the town and surroundings.  What a pleasure to be able to drive with all the windows down, bare arm out the window to work on the farmer’s tan, enjoying the warm breeze and scenery.  As well as a number of RV parks, Bouse has fuel, propane, laundry, several restaurants and general stores, a library, clinic, and most of the essentials that any RV’er could ask for.CIMG2847CIMG2849CIMG2850CIMG2851CIMG2852CIMG2856CIMG2859

As well as the services in Bouse, it is not far from Quartzsite if any other RV requirements need to be met.CIMG2825CIMG2826CIMG2827If the good weather continues, this may just be the place to kick back again for a while and save some more money.  Stay tuned.

  1. Nice to read you are having great weather - it's 29 degrees right now in Florida. Hailey looks pretty content. Sounds like a good place to stay for awhile - and a great way to save money.

  2. We slipped up Plomosa road to see some friends last winter & could see there were a lot of great spots along there. I think there are mines to explore in that area as well. A lot of RV'ers huddle together at the Quartzsite end of Plomosa road. The hordes will descend on the area after Christmas because of the big Quartzsite shindig in mid January I suspect.

  3. That area is definitely in our plans for later this winter, once we get shed of this Louisiana winter weather.

  6. IT's +11 here today... yesterday it was +16 with thunder and lightening, and we got 4 + inches of rain.

See Hailey is attached to the RV again.

Of course tomorrow it's suppose to snow again!

  8. I just returned from a couple of weeks near Salome, which isn't all that far from Bouse, and I didn't hear a single coyote the entire time. I would love to have heard the coyote choir!
