After leaving the Kartchner Caverns area it was a short drive south into Sierra Vista, Arizona,

home of Fort Huachuca, a US army base.
This became obvious by the number of military jets flying low across the highway on their final approach, as well as lots of uniforms in town and area.

Instead of going directly to Coronado National Memorial, I instead went a bit further east.
A quick stop at a Bureau of Land Management Riparian National Conservation Area provided the opportunity for Harley to check out the sign.

Then it was further to the south east to the historical town of Bisbee, AZ.

This is a quaint little mining town stated in the late 1800's when copper was discovered there.
The now-closed mine is a huge deep open pit right beside the town. The main part of the historic town is constructed in a narrow canyon, with houses built into the rock up both sides.
There is a watercourse leading right down the centre, where everyone's driveway is a bridge in some areas. It reminds me of Trail and Rossland, British Columbia which shares some of the same type of building construction and history.

I unfortunately did not encounter one of the towns local characters and attractions - the dog, cat, mouse man. This guy has trained a cat to ride on the back of a dog as they walk around town.
Of course, riding on the back of the cat is a ... mouse! Photos for a fee!

Then it was down along a road very near to the Mexican boundary, so the Border Patrol seem to be in every second vehicle and they have a variety of observation toys to keep an eye out for smugglers and undocumented aliens.

That it can be a scary areas was brought home when the Chief of Police in a Mexican border town nearby was very recently executed - likely by the drug cartels.

In case you didn't believe that it is summer-like down here, I took a shot of the garden section in Home Depot for you!
